Welcome back!
After enjoying a long winter break and welcoming a new year, I am ready for the routine that returning to school brings. I need the structure to be productive. In our morning meeting today, I shared that I want to focus on two things in 2024. The first is that I will focus on listening and listening carefully to understand. In conjunction with listening, I want to read more. We are entering an election cycle, world affairs are complex, and there is a constant bombardment of information to sift through. I have become accustomed to getting only snippets or abbreviated information about complex topics. This leaves me unsettled and needing to be better informed. So, I will slow down and take the time to listen attentively and read carefully to understand the people and world around me better.
I look forward to engaging with students, parents, and alumnae as we navigate the months ahead. We will get busy but can take time with our days and work. Our mission to “prepare a diverse group of young women to be engaged scholars and citizens, proud to shape society rather than be controlled by it, and ready to live and lead with honor, courage, and confidence” requires us to make the time to do so intentionally. Hold a spot on your calendar for coffee before school on Wednesday, January 31, with Blair Parker, our incoming Head of School. Details will be forthcoming. I look forward to seeing you on campus, Helen
